Words From a Mentor Alum
Elena Chernock from Boston, Massachusettes, Theater Mentor 2010
"Working with Barrio La Planta allowed me to utilize all of the skills I had learned in my life and in my career so far. I was able to share with my students’ sustainable artistic and communication skills. But the most rewarding part of the experience was what my students taught me; about humility and diversity and strength. My students inspired me as much I inspired them. Working with the children of BPP was not only a great way to spend my time, it helped me clarify my own goals in life and appreciate the things I love from a whole new perspective."
BPP is looking for volunteers who live in San Juan del Sur, with big hearts and a desire to give back, to join our team and help us shape the personality of our next semester, which will take place from February to June 2017. Volunteer Mentors teach a one-hour apprenticeship, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays during a morning or afternoon time slot of their choice. Past semester apprenticeships have included Crochet, Theater, Photography, Art, Board Games, Gardening, Cooking, Music, Yoga & More. We encourage you to get creative! Expanding our children's access to variety helps them discover their skills, talents and passions so they can continue to lead happy, healthy and productive lives.
